制作の裏側
Flying HighはCosmic Cabaretのセッション向けに書かれた最初のシングルです。ホームスタジオでたった一午後に録音され、シンプルなRhodesのコード進行から始まり、やがて高揚感あふれるアンセムへと育ちました。重ねられたハーモニーは70年代のクラシック・ソウル盤に着想を得ており、各ボーカル・テイクを積み重ねて「喜びの壁」効果を生み出しています。力強いリズム・セクションはヴィンテージのドラム・マシン・パターンを軸に組み立てられ、後からライブ・パーカッションで補強されました。歌詞は、数か月のライターズ・ブロックを乗り越えた創造的な突破口の感覚を映し、個人的な迷いを音楽的な推進力へと変えています。ホーン・アレンジはミキシング中の後付けで加えられましたが、曲のシグネチャー・フックとなりました。
