Good Time Comin' war der erste abgeschlossene Track für das Cosmic Cabaret-Album und legte die klangliche Richtung für das gesamte Projekt fest. Die Bassline wurde von klassischen Funk-Platten der 1970er inspiriert, insbesondere der Arbeit von Larry Graham. Der Track war zunächst als instrumentales Jam gedacht, doch Groovella fügte Gesang hinzu, als klar wurde, dass der Groove eine lyrische Entsprechung verlangte. Die feierlichen Bläser-Stabs kamen während einer nächtlichen Mix-Session dazu und wurden zum wiedererkennbarsten Element des Tracks. Die B-Side-Version erkundet ein ausgedehnteres Arrangement mit zusätzlichen Instrumentalsoli.
